"LOVEST THOU ME?"
Intro: Peter brought back to cross where he failed stages of restoration.
A. Storing up in his mind words that would help in days to come.
B. "That thy faith fail thee not."
1. Was prayer answered?
2. Courage failed, obedience.
C. Jesus had prayed before denial ever came.
II. LUKE 22:61 "AND THE LORD TURNED AND LOOKED AT PETER."
A. Have you ever asked how did He look.
1. Not look at sorrow you are causing me.
2. Pity - Look at sorrow you are causing yourself.
B. The look broke Peter's heart.
Peter left the fire and hurried out into the night "he is coming home."
III. MARK 16:7 "GO TELL THE DISCIPLES AND PETER."
A. How much this meant to Peter.
B. The last words Christ had heard him say - denial and oaths.
IV. LUKE 24:33,34 "THE LORD IS RISEN AND HATH APPEARED UNTO SIMON."
A. What did he say to Simon.
V. JOHN 21 - CHALLENGES PETER'S LOVE.
A. The setting.
1. Fire - morning - three times.
2. No formal court but informal breakfast.
B. Difference in words translated love.
C. Did Peter ever rise to the Lord's word? That morning at the lake stayed with word he knew he possessed. Get away from fires of the enemy and come to fire Christ is kindling for you.
VI. HE GIVES PETER BACK HIS WORK AND COMMISSIONS HIM.
A. A little time back he said, Jesus, you don't know me, I will never forsake.
B. Now he says, You know me, you know I love.
C. Thrice denied, thrice confessed.
D. With each confession renewed commission.
VII. "FOLLOW ME" "WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG."
A. Peter you were afraid of my cross and thus left.
B. You will have your own cross, follow me. My cross leads to my crowning. Your cross will lead to your crowning.
The Savior who restored Peter is waiting for you.
Brokenhearted, how you denied Him?
He sends a message to you.
He is at your side, He wants to talk to you alone. His love is still strong.
