"THE SEEKING GOD"
Intro: In Psalms, God is declared to be slow to anger and plenteous in mercy. Eze.18 - God has no pleasure in death of wicked. Judgments as warnings & punishments.
I. THE NEED FOR A MAN.
A. The nation had become polluted.
1. Serving false gods.
a. Intellect.
b. Pleasure.
c. Power.
2. Violence was increasing.
3. Their government officials had become corrupted.
4. Their ministers and priests condoned their evil practices.
B. The time had come for judgment.
1. For God to be righteous, He must judge.
a. When God does not judge, people begin to think He condones.
b. Next they think He approves.
c. Or they think He is dead.
d. All kinds of false and blasphemous ideas of God are formed.
C. Though He must judge, He still sought to save.
1. Oh the long-suffering and mercy of God.
2. He sought for a man.
II. THE TASK FOR GOD'S MAN - "To make up the hedge, to stand in the gap."
A. Sin always separates from God.
1. It creates a gap.
2. God cannot deal directly with sin without death.
a. Even with His own Son.
3. God sought for men to be intercessors.
B. Man to turn people back to God.
III. QUALIFICATIONS OF THAT MAN.
A. Must be walking in fellowship with God.
B. Must be separated from worldly practices.
C. Must be willing to be God's instrument.
D. He must be courageous.
IV. THIS IS NOT ISOLATED EVENT IN HISTORY BUT A CONTINUING EXPERIENCE.
A. Moses - Joshua - Samuel.
B. Today, God needs men.
a. Facing National Crisis.
b. Time for judgment has come.
c. God cannot withhold any longer.
d. Blasphemous concepts already coming forth.
C. God needs men of courage.
a. Apt to be subjected to mocking, scourging and death.
b. A righteous prophet never welcome in an evil world.
V. THE TRAGIC RESULTS WHEN GOD CANNOT FIND MEN - "...BUT I FOUND NONE."
A. Therefore.
