Intro: Two realms of mystery that assault soul & produce fear, fear of future and fear of unfathomable present. "What is going to happen?" "What shall we do?" Of the future, "the Eternal God is our dwelling place." Of the present "underneath are the everlasting arms."
I. "THE ETERNAL GOD."
A. "Eternal."
1. Does not mean what everlasting means.
2. Has no reference to tomorrow rather yesterday.
a. What comfort then in fear of tomorrow?
3. Tomorrow not in front of us but behind us.
a. Thought is that of procession.
II. "UNDERNEATH ARE THE EVERLASTING ARMS"
A. Underneath means bottom, beaten down, depressed.
1. How far down can your imagination carry you?
a. What is the lowest ebb?
B. Arms always constitutes figure of strength.
III. FEARS OF FUTURE.
A. Look at world, chaos, hopelessness. What does the future hold?
B. Look at church - confusion.
C. Fear about Christ - rejection by men.
D. Fear about our souls, our failures in spite of highest aspirations. Look at these fears in light of text.
There's not a day that passes but Christ my savior is real to me on bright or shadowed pathways His precious presence by faith I see Walking along together His voice doth...
