"HOW LONG TILL THE END?"
Intro: God had given prophetic insight into the future. Man's destiny was to become progressively worse, verse 1. Then the Lord spoke of the end when man's technology would be increased to allow him to freely travel around the world. "How long till the end?"
I. AN END IS COMING.
A. Those who scoff at this thought.
1. Peter predicted these scoffers.
2. The idea of an end of man's abortive attempts at government seem absurd.
a. They call us dreamers, unrealistic, visionaries.
b. Who are the real dreamers?
1. Those who think that man can establish a perfect government.
2. Those who think that men can solve the problems of this complex age.
B. Jesus also spoke of the end of the age.
1. In the scripture reading in Luke 21, He spoke of the signs of the end.
II. THE DISCIPLES WANTED TO KNOW THE SIGNS OF THE END
A. Famines, earthquakes, pestilence, world war.
B. A man to arise with genius capacities.
1. Create a new monetary system.
2. Create a world government.
3. Talk of peace.
III. AS WE SEE THE RAPIDLY DETERIORATING CONDITION OF OUR WORLD AGAIN WE CRY, "HOW LONG TO THE END?"
A. When the National Council of Churches director of family ministries, William Sheek writes to the Dade County Board of Comm. to speak against Anita Bryant's brave and courageous stand, saying she and her supporters do not represent the total Christian community and that the Bible does not condemn homosexuality.
"How long till the end?"
When I read of David Gordon being stabbed to death in a Washington bar when he sought to aid a man being stabbed, then the other bar patrons drinking and dancing about his body as he lay dying on the floor, I cry, "How long Lord till..."
When I look at the air pollution.
When I heard of the ozone depletion. When I read of the energy crisis.
When I see the required reading materials in the public schools.
When I see the corrupted morals of our society.
It makes me thankful the end is coming.
IV. THE TIME OF THE END.
A. When this powerful world ruler sets up himself in the holy place of the temple in Jerusalem and causes the daily sacrifices and oblations to cease, it will be 1,290 days.
