Mark Eastman :: Epilogue

If you have examined the evidence presented thus far, you have seen what can be described as an astonishing paradox. For over a thousand years God gave dozens of clues through the prophets regarding the origin, mission and destiny of his Son, the Messiah. We have seen that this "biblical composite" was clear and discussed extensively by the ancient rabbis. Perhaps the most paradoxical aspect of the Messianic composite was that when the Messiah came, he was to be rejected, tortured, pierced and killed! And through his death he would bear the sins of the people, though he was sinless himself. Finally, we have seen that after suffering "initial defeat" he would come again in glory to fulfill the ruling and reigning vein of prophecy. As we have seen, these were the beliefs of the ancient rabbis. And yet, when Jesus of Nazareth came and fulfilled over three hundred Messianic prophecies, including the suffering servant vein of prophecy, he and his claims were rejected by the majority of the Jewish leadership.

Because of his exclusive claims, Jesus of Nazareth has no doubt become the most controversial figure that has ever walked the face of the earth. And yet, he fulfilled the requirements set forth by the prophets. Why is it that you can talk about the weather, sports, politics, Buddha, Mohammed or almost any other topic and not engender much anger or animosity. Yet, when the exclusive claims of Jesus are discussed, the result is often rolling of the eyes, looking at the floor, changing the subject or downright anger! As we saw, this response (being offended by the Messiah and his claims) was even foreseen by the prophets!

I believe this response is because his claims are so exclusive and as a result, they are offensive to our intellect and our hearts. However, if he did fulfill the Messianic composite and if he is the Messiah then it is absolutely imperative that we heed his commands.

I challenge you to accept him as your Lord and Savior. Place your unanswered questions in a file labeled "waiting for further information." God will answer your questions in time. The bottom line is that the Bible says that we will all bow our knees and confess with our tongues that Jesus Christ is Lord. Do it now.
