    1. The practical exhortation – Rom 6:12
      1. Do not allow sin to rule
      2. Do not yield your body to serve sin
    2. The practical outworking – Rom 6:13
      1. The negative – we must not yield our members unto sin as instruments of unrighteousness
        1. “Members”
          1. The parts of our body
          2. The mind part of body because of the brain
          3. The will as associated to the brain
          4. The emotions as associated to the mind and chemical reactors in the body
        2. “Instruments” are tools – servants
        3. “Yield” – present
          1. Do not present your “members” as “tools” of unrighteousness
          2. Do not allow the body to be used in the service of sin
          3. Do not allow individual members of the body to be used as a servant of sin

            5. Thoughts
            6. Imaginations
            7. Emotions
              1. Fear
              2. Worry
              3. Love
              4. Hate
              5. Bitterness
              6. Resentments
      2. The positive
        1. Present the members of your body unto God
        2. As instruments – tools, servants of righteousness
        3. As being alive unto God
          1. The believer can do this
          2. We are responsible to do this
      3. The process
        1. Initial prayerful presentation – giving, yielding
        2. Continuing attitudes of giving
      4. The problem
        1. Ourselves
        2. Introspection
        3. Subjective
        4. Performance oriented
          1. Our struggle
          2. Our condition
          3. Our feeling
      5. The solution
        1. “Stand” on our position
        2. Present ourselves for service
        3. Put ourselves at His disposal
          1. We do not come to a clinic for illness
          2. We come to the commander-in-chief for service
          3. We must consider the military commands of the New Testament
            1. Fight the good fight of faith
            2. Be equipped as men
            3. Put on the whole armor of God
            4. Stand in the evil day
            5. Endure hardness as a good soldier
          4. We must not dwell on ourselves
            1. Our failure
            2. Our feeling
            3. Our condition
            4. Our success
          5. The chief issue
            1. Not “How can I be happy?”
            2. But “How can I glorify God?”
      6. The purpose – Rom 6:14
        1. Freedom from the rule of sin
          1. From sin’s penalty
          2. From sin’s authority
        2. Freedom from the works system
          1. Attempting to justify self
          2. The opposite of justification by faith
          3. The law does not provide the power
        3. Living in grace
