Anathoth:
(answers to prayer).
(1.) Son of Becher, a son of Benjamin (1 Chronicles 7:8).
(2.) One of the "heads of the people" who signed the covenant in the time of Nehemiah (Nehemiah 10:19). (B.C. 410)
(3.) a priests' city belonging to the tribe of Benjamin, with "suburbs." (Joshua 21:18; 1 Chronicles 6:60). Anathoth lay about three miles from Jerusalem (Isaiah 10:30). The cultivation of the priests survives in tilled fields of grain, with figs and olives. There are the remains of walls and strong foundations, and the quarries still supply Jerusalem with building stones.
The Blue Letter Bible ministry and the BLB Institute hold to the historical, conservative Christian faith, which includes a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. Since the text and audio content provided by BLB represent a range of evangelical traditions, all of the ideas and principles conveyed in the resource materials are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
