Hymns Supplied Through the Gracious Generosity
of the Cyber Hymnal Website
Words: Possibly by Ambrose of Milan, 4th Century (Te lucis ante terminum); translated from Latin to English by John Henry Newman in Tracts for the Times, 1836.
Music: "St. Flavian," Day's Psalter, 1563 |
Now that the daylight dies away,
By all Thy grace and love,
Thee, Maker of the world, we pray
To watch our bed above.
Let dreams depart and phantoms fly,
The offspring of the night,
Keep us, like shrines, beneath Thine eye,
Pure in our foe's despite.
This grace on Thy redeemed confer,
Father, co-equal Son,
And Holy Ghost, the Comforter,
Eternal Three in One.
The Blue Letter Bible ministry and the BLB Institute hold to the historical, conservative Christian faith, which includes a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. Since the text and audio content provided by BLB represent a range of evangelical traditions, all of the ideas and principles conveyed in the resource materials are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
