Haywood lived most of his life in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was the only prominent black Pentecostal preacher in the Finished Work branch of the movement, which became the Assemblies of God and the Pentecostal Church of God. He eventually became associated with an unorthodox group that denied the Trinity and left the Assemblies of God into the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World.

The Blue Letter Bible ministry and the BLB Institute hold to the historical, conservative Christian faith, which includes a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. Since the text and audio content provided by BLB represent a range of evangelical traditions, all of the ideas and principles conveyed in the resource materials are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
